2016 WINGS graduation
Nine scholars earn their WINGS!
"Grateful Heart. Generous Spirit." was the theme of this year's WINGS graduation celebration on May 26. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the WINGS scholarship program and the 94th graduate earning her college degree.
More than 170 WE members, scholars, educators, and guests attended the annual celebration at Byron's Southend. Keynote speakers included WINGS graduates Faith Foster, a 2016 graduate from UNC Charlotte and Layla Bluefort, a 2011 Johnson C. Smith University graduate who went on to earn her Masters degree in social work at the University of South Carolina. WE President Dianne Chipps Bailey spoke briefly in memory of Martha Schweppe, a long-term WINGS volunteer and financial advisor to the WECS board.
